CHEMICAL PEELS

Chemical peels. A chemical peel is solution applied to the face to remove dead skin cells and stimulate the growth of new cells. The aim is to improve the appearance of the skin – for example, by reducing age spots and evening out skin tone. There are 3 types of peels, called superficial, medium and deep.

Regardless of the type of peel used, the overall procedure is similar. The skin will be cleansed and then the chemical solution will be applied to the face. This process takes just a few minutes. During the chemical peel, you may feel a tingling sensation that lasts 5-10 minutes.

FAQ'S (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q. How many treatments do I need?

Estee Beauty Clinic recommend 3-6 treatments each spaced 4 weeks apart to achieve optimal results.

Q. What results can I expect?

Immediately after the peel and up to 24 hours:

Skin may appear slightly redder than usual for about 1 –2 hours after the treatment. If neck and décolleté are treated, the redness might last slightly longer.

Mild edema can last up to 1 hour.

Wait until bedtime before washing the face.

Avoid strenuous exercise on the day of the procedure.

NEXT DAY TO 4 DAYS AFTER THE PROCEDURE:

Skin should look normal the next day.

Because of the superficial nature of this peel, patients should not expect to see visible peeling. Occasionally, some patients may have very minor flaking 3-4 days after the procedure.

Q. Are chemical peels safe for people with dark skin?

If you have darker skin, you may also have good results, depending upon the type of problem being treated. But you also may be more likely to have an uneven skin tone after the procedure. Skin sags, bulges, and more severe wrinkles do not respond well to chemical peels.

Chemical Peel: Purpose, Procedure, Risks, Results

Q. Does a chemical peel make your skin dry and Itchy?

Con: It can make skin dry, itchy and sore (not sure what to think any more...) Whilst the chemical peel is doing its thing, it's normal for skin to be dry and scaley as the top layer of skin peels away.

Q. What are the risks of chemical peels?

With deep peels, you may permanently lose the ability to tan. Chemical peels can, however, have more serious risks and dangerous side effects that can be permanent. These include darkening or lightening of the skin colour. These can be more common in people with darker skin.
